About
Who am I?
I've got a couple of names on the internet. I'm known by many as musicalmidget, the name I came up with when I connected to the internet for the first time. Recently though I've also been using the name Zoot. Who is zoot you may ask. It's suprising how many people ask this and then say "oh yeah, of course" when I explain it to them. Does anyone remember watching the muppets? Zoot was the saxophone player in the muppets band. I thought it was an appropriate name to use myself on account of the fact I'm also a saxophone player.
About Me
Well, I'm from Doncaster in the United Kingdom. It's not quite the end of the world, but you can see it...
I've recently completed a BMus in music at the University of Hull and am now working full time as a web applications developer. It's very interesting work and I'm learning all kinds of new things. Most of the work is based on producing an IPTV service which means I can take the skills I've learnt over the last few years (and am indeed still learning) and put them to use in a completely new context. So far, it's going quite well.
There's quite a few things I'm interested and involved in both online and in the "real" world, for want of a better term. Online I'm involved with the development of a forum script called MyBulletinBoard (MyBB). Also, I'm continuing to run MyBB Mods, a site which I started before I was part of the MyBB team. The MyBB Mods site is a place for users to obtain various plugins, modifications and themes for their installations of MyBB. The site has been growing nicely since it opened a few years ago and continues to do so.
Offline I'm very much into music as you may have guessed by my main online name. I started playing the clarinet eight years ago (wow, where did all that time go). This eventually brought me to the saxophone which I started playing four years ago. I now own my own saxophone, and hope I'll also be able to get my own clarinet sometime too, since the one I learnt on was only borrowed and I had to give it back just before I started at university. I absolutely love playing the sax, but do miss my clarinet from time to time.
I'm also very much into composition, when of course I have time. In particularly, I'm interested in composing pieces of music for wind/concert band. I'm going to be studying composition as part of my course at university so I'm really hoping this interest will advance further as time goes on. I'll be publishing some pieces of music on Sibelius Music eventually if anyone is interested in viewing them, although you'll need the Sibelius Scorch plugin installed to be able to play the scores back through your MIDI device. My SibeliusMusic homepage is located at http://members.sibeliusmusic.com/AlanCrisp.
Anything Else?
Nope. I think that about covers it for now.
