Goodbye to C-Unit?

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

It seems strange writing this when my last post (admittedly a month ago) was made just before returning to Grant Hall for my second term at university. However, anyone that’s spoken to me recently will know that a number of personal issues have affected my current accomodation arrangements for the remaining seven weeks of this semester.

Sadly, in my next meeting with the warden of the hall, I’ll be officially requesting terminating the residence contract, meaning I’m about to leave Grant Hall. Instead, I’ll be living at home for the rest of the term, simply travelling to the campus for lectures during the day and coming home again when I’m finished. This plan means I’ll be doing a lot of travelling, but by living at home for the rest of the term I can solve a number of problems which have really been getting to me lately.

Although I’m confident that moving out of the hall is what I need to do in order to solve my problems, it’s quite a sad thought. I’ve had lots of fun living in the hall as I’m sure some of the photo’s on my gallery page will show. :P I’ll certainly miss the atmosphere of the place and it’ll be a shame not to be able to go out to Waterfront with the rest of C-Unit. However, it takes more than living 40 miles away to keep me away totally, so I’ll still be showing my face in Asylum every couple of weekends so the partying isn’t completely over. ;)

There are of course advantages to being at home too. For a start, my meals will be home cooked, which is bound to be much nicer than the canteen food I get each day at The Lawns. Also, I have the comfort of my own room, where nobody pelts the doors and windows, nobody shouts and balls when they get in at 2 in the morning, and fire alarms aren’t there to wake me in the stupidly early hours of the morning. Additionally, I’ll have my own computer back as well as a proper internet connection. That means I wont be blocked from accessing my own site, plus I’ll be able once again to contribute to the development of MyBB (once of course I’m upto speed on the many changes which have been introduced recently) as the university proxy will no longer be a problem.

For the obvious reasons, I haven’t posted any of the full details into some of my recent problems, as they are indeed personal, and such personal issues don’t really belong on the net. However, it’s still quite a strange situation I’m finding myself in. At the end of the day, I’m sure my best option is to, like I said, move out of my hall of residence. What makes the situation strange though is that at the same time I’m wanting to leave, a large part of me isn’t wanting to. It seems I can’t win totally whichever option I choose, but hey, isn’t that life?

Anyways, there’s the latest on some of the things that have been going on in my life recently. To try and bring some more pleasant news however, I visited Andy at Stafford University last weekend. Whilst there, we saw Christina Aguilera in the Union (kind of… :P), had our first trip of 2006 to Alton Towers (yes, it’s off season, but annual passes open some pretty nice doors ;)) and played yet another prank on Andy’s flatmate Tim (poor guy). Yes, even we didn’t realise that so many leaflets could be pushed under one guys door…the final count was just short of 1200 leaflets under there. I don’t know how poor old Tim puts up with the pair of us, we seem to pull some kind of prank each time I visit. :P

Later in the week there’s likely to be another post here, and with any luck there should also be a collection of new photographs up in the gallery, but we’ll have to wait and see. :)

Returning to University

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

After a busy but fun Christmas break I’ll be setting off to return to university and the infamous Grant Hall C-Unit within an hour. I’ve had a great break and it’s been great to see so many people again. I hope you’ll all come and visit me soon.

I would also like to wish everyone else who is returning to university this week good luck in the next semester. :)

I’m Alive

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

It’s been a while hasn’t it?

I’ve been caught up in loads of things since my last post, hence the long silence. However, be assured, I’m still alive, I’m well (relatively anyway) and am looking forward to the end of the uni term that isn’t too far away now.

Since my lasy post I’ve had various assignments to do and a large number of performances, including a couple of special jazz nights which I particularly enjoyed playing in. On top of that I’ve been enjoying the social side of things over here and have been going out a fair bit. Recent adventures include a champaigne train in Waterfront last night, and taking Andy over to Asylum when he came to stay a couple of weeks ago.

Anyhows, lectures end this friday and although I’ve got a couple of assignments to do I’m thinking of coming home early after teaching ends for the term and just travel back up to uni to hand in the assignments when they’re done. After all, I’m only an hour away and it’s better now I’m driving (…oh yeah…I didn’t say did I…I passed!) and I’d rather be in the comfort of my own room of my own home.

Anyways, I’ll be home soon and I’ll aim to see as many people as possible whilst I’m back for the Christmas period.

Twisted Skool Days

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

The latest theme night at Twisted was “Skool Days” just over a week ago. Once again, we all got dressed up C-Unit stylee and went along to Asylum to see 90s School Disco duo Chaka Demus and Pliers.

It seems to have been another good night out for everyone that went. As usual, a selection of photos are up in the Gallery.

C-Unit

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

The girls living in the room next to mine here in the Grant Hall C-Unit just said “we want to be mentioned on your site”. I’m not entirely sure what they had in mind but here goes all the same… :P

Some floors in our block have three rooms and others have four. Each has one shared room and the rest are singles. My floor has four…Priesh lives next door to me in room 1. I live at the other side of the wall in room 1A (I get an A because I’m special). Behind my room is the little kitchen, then the bathroom and shower room. At the other side of there is the all important shared room (number 2)…all important because I’m in trouble if I don’t mention Liv and Ali who live in it (there…you’re on the site! :P). Then next to them is Claire’s room (number 3). And that, ladies and gentlemen, rounds off the description of my floor.

I’m hoping to get lots of people up here visiting soon, so if you fancy a night in Asylum or one of the other clubs around here…watch this space! :D

Twisted Beach Party

Monday, September 26th, 2005

Just over a week ago there was a beach party at Twisted, the Saturday night event in Asylum, the student nightclub. In true C-Unit style we got fully dressed up into different kinds of beach cloths.

Photo’s are now up in the gallery. Can you spot me? :D

Uni Life

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Uni life is about to go into full swing tomorrow. Lectures start this week, and following a short introduction to various modules on Monday, actual teaching will begin for me in the morning.

Most of the infamous :P C-Unit are now out at a Freshers party in one of the clubs in Hull. I and a few others are still here though so as to make sure we get up in time to travel onto the campus for an early start. Quite a few of us are also still tired from the dawn chorus this morning, when the fire officer thought it might be fun to have a fire drill at 6:40 am. Thankfully everyone dragged themselves out of bed and into the quad in enough time to not have to do the drill again some other time. We were warned on the first day that an early drill was on the way, and following a drill at a different hall the day before we were kind of expecting it this morning, but it still wasn’t exactly fun.

It’s good to have the internet in my room here in the halls, but there are still a few problems with it. I’m still unable to connect to the internet through various pieces of software. Mozilla Firefox and MSN Messenger however are working fine…the essentials. ;)

Yesterday was the first meeting of the wind band here at the uni. We’ve only got two pieces to play at the moment, but one of them is a piece I’m really quite fond of. We’re playing the “Second Suite in F” by Gustav Holst which is a piece I’ve played for the last couple of years in DSSB (Doncaster Schools Symphonic Band), and although I’m sadly not able to play in that band any more, the memories will live on through playing this fantastic piece! Lots of fun indeed, especially the final movement. :P

Time now to catch up on some sleep I think, and also to try and take my mind away from this nasty cold I seem to be coming down with. It seems it’s doing the rounds at the moment so I hope it passes shortly. Either way, it’ll not keep me home for long. I’ll be back in Asylum (the club at the uni) for Tower tomorrow night. Bring on the party… :D

Greetings from Hull!

Monday, September 12th, 2005

Hello and thanks for reading, this message is coming to you from my new home away from home at the University of Hull!

I finally arrived here on Saturday and got my internet access this morning when I officially registered as a student of the university.

It’s freshers week here and what a great week it has been so far. There are roughly 30 people in my block, which is block C of Grant Hall for anyone that cares. :P Everyone seems really friendly and we’ve been going out as a massive group every night since we arrived on Saturday. Tonight is slightly different however, as I’m in the hall alone at the moment. Each student here has to officially register with the university at a specific time on a particular day. For most people, including everyone else in my hall, registration takes place tomorrow, however my registration time was 15:00 today. Registration is not a quick process, or more to the point, registration is a fairly quick process, but queing up to do so is not. It takes about an hour from starting to queue up to actually reaching the registration desk, then it takes a further hour and a half to queue up for the university ID card which is needed to access buildings such as the library and ICT suites. After this long experience I couldn’t drag myself out to the club with the others, so I’m here writing this message, and looking after the hall, making sure our neighbouring D block don’t try to continue any of their earlier pranks. Personally, I think they’re just jealous that we all get on so well… :P

I’m still in the process of finding out what I can and cannot access via the internet connection in my room. Firefox and Messenger are now working however, so that’s some of the important stuff done. :P Things such as TortoiseSVN I’m having problems with, so I’ll have to look into that one more a bit later on.

More posts about life here at the university to follow in days to come… :D

The Next Step

Friday, September 9th, 2005

Tomorrow is a day I’ve been waiting for for years. It’s the day I go to University and start taking my next big step in life.

I’m quite looking forward to tomorrow. There’s a lot to do on the first day, but it should be fun to meet many of the new people I’ll be living and studying with. There’s also a lot in the way of parties happening on the first week. The emphasis is all about settling in and enjoying ourselves in our new environment, and as such there are numerous events taking place all week, including quiz nights and performances from celebrities…sounds fun.

Unfortunately, I can’t be certain as to when I’ll get my internet connection back after tomorrow. There is an internet access point in every room where I’ll be staying, but in order to use the net you need to be registered, and the time I’m supposed to register is currently unknown. I might have the connection setup by the end of day one, or it might take me a week or so. Either way, I’ll be back online as soon as I can…between all the hopping from event to event. :P

So, until next time when I’ll be posting live from my new home…bye for now. :D
